There is a small part of me that resents the fact that some people can spend an insignificant amount of time preparing for a final exam, and the perform as though they had been working on it for weeks, like everybody else. I probably shouldn't hold anything against those types of people, because when it comes to intelectual exams, i'm one of them. But dancing isn't really my forte. I can't feel comfortable standing up and free-styling a solo dance that was something we were supposed to have been working on for weeks.
I guess i should just appreciate the talents of others. If i were to judge and be disgruntled about somthing someone can do well that i can't, I'd find a lot of things to be unhappy about and i would probably not progress in life. The reason we are put on earth with different people who have different talents is so that we can all learn and grow together. Some people just have natural talent. Writing and speaking come easily to me. Other subjects just make sense and i don't feel like I have to work to understand them. Math isn't quite one of these subjects. Neither is anything physical like dance or sports. I have to work at those to feel competent. Maybe the reason some things come easy to me is so that i can spend the time i would have needed to master it to help others grow and understand those things. I probably also should use that time to challenge myself and explore things which don't come easy to me.
I'm really grateful for the people who are good at something and do take the time to help others who struggle and help expecting nothing in return. That's true charity right there. I wouldn't be where i am today without the talents others shared. Particularly with this dance final I stressed about. As i was practicing this solo i had to choreograph, A young man named Thomas came and needed to share the dance room i was in. He was waiting for his choreographer so he could continue practicing for his final graduation project. He was a dance major. I expressed some concern about choreographing my own piece and he selflessly offered to watch me and give me feedback. His simple suggestions and assuring support did wonders for my level of confidence. I'd never met him before, but he genuinely cared and wanted me to succeed. My friend Amberly also took time away from her family to help coach me through a rough section of my choreography. She used to be wonderful dancer but had to quit because of a back injury. I could tell it made her happy to help me and teach me about something which was once a passion of hers. It made me feel less guilty that i took her away from her studies to help me.
I've grown more from this experience being challenged by something i wasn't initially good at than i would have been had i taken a class which was easy and already a part of me. I learned more about faith and sacrificial service than would have thought a dance class could teach.
